00:00:00.060 --> 00:00:04.100
One of the classic examples
of contemplative activism

2
00:00:04.125 --> 00:00:07.430
is the difference
between the kairos moment

3
00:00:07.455 --> 00:00:11.427
and maybe the desire
to be seen or heard.

4
00:00:11.452 --> 00:00:16.484
Often some people are wired
for activism and others are not.

5
00:00:16.509 --> 00:00:20.554
A lot of us who come
from that kind of action place

6
00:00:20.579 --> 00:00:25.382
have reasons for that,
have motivations for that.

7
00:00:25.407 --> 00:00:30.281
In myself I was raised with
a very kind of abusive father

8
00:00:30.306 --> 00:00:32.875
and so I realized

9
00:00:32.900 --> 00:00:36.109
early on the first couple of years
my activist career

10
00:00:36.134 --> 00:00:43.349
that my kind of angry way
of coming you know coming out,

11
00:00:43.374 --> 00:00:46.582
I was a very rebellious activist

12
00:00:46.607 --> 00:00:50.138
and it was really
expressing feelings

13
00:00:50.163 --> 00:00:53.232
that had been beneath
the surface for many years.

14
00:00:53.257 --> 00:00:57.631
I was angry at patriarchy.
I was angry at a lot of things.

15
00:00:57.656 --> 00:01:01.576
And as I grew as an activist,
I needed,

16
00:01:01.601 --> 00:01:03.973
I kind of began to realize that

17
00:01:03.998 --> 00:01:06.248
I needed to have an awareness of

18
00:01:06.273 --> 00:01:10.482
when I was coming from a place
of kind of needing to be heard

19
00:01:10.507 --> 00:01:12.507
or needing to be seen

20
00:01:12.602 --> 00:01:16.720
versus the kairos moment
which is when you know

21
00:01:16.745 --> 00:01:20.029
truth is wanting to be spoken.

22
00:01:20.054 --> 00:01:22.459
You know that the spirit
is kind of at your back

23
00:01:22.484 --> 00:01:25.638
and pushing you to speak
something that needs to be heard

24
00:01:25.663 --> 00:01:27.351
that needs to be in the room.
